  • Condolences to Past President Ape Ongpin

The Manila Boat Club would like to express its sincere condolences on the untimely passing of Robert Ongpin, uncle to Past President Apa. Roberto (Bobby) Velayo Ongpin, Chairman of Alphaland, passed away in his sleep on Saturday 2/4 night on Balesin Island, the exclusive resort he built. He was drafted to serve as one of the most powerful government ministers during the Philippines’ worst economic crisis, later becoming one of the country’s wealthiest and most influential businessmen. Rest in Peace

According to close relatives, Ongpin He was 86 years old.

  • Update on Coach rowing.

Due to a serious incident with Benny having a seizure whilst rowing and causing the boat to overturn, he will not be permitted to accompany members or guests for the time being for his own safety, as well as that of other rowers.

  • Rowing Lessons

Whilst the Club has reopened for members to row, we are not yet accepting novices for rowing lessons due to the covid-19 restrictions. We look forward to starting this again in 2021 when we are all clear of Covid-19.

  • Manila Boat Club will be CLOSED until April 14th.

The Board of Directors of the Manila Boat Club has unanimously agreed that in compliance with the Extended Community Quarantine Order issued on Monday March 16th, that the Manila Boat Club will be CLOSED until April 14th.

Only essential personnel (including the Philippine Coastguard Auxiliary 126th Squadron) will be permitted entry in the pursuit of their duties, with immediate effect.

NOTE: in 125 years of operation, (with the exception of World War 2) this is probably the only time an enforced cessation of rowing has affected MBC.

    Thank you for your understanding.
